November 2021 Newsletter

DEAR MENLO CHURCH,

The year continues to be filled with rare circumstances, challenges, and opportunities. Yet, what encourages me is how you've listened and leaned into God. You've stepped into faithfulness and obedience with him in your financial commitment, and I can’t help but smile and feel reassured knowing that God is good, especially when we work together.

I also continue to be struck by something I overheard at a Spiritual Formation Retreat this month—as a woman was leaving, she said, “Now THAT’S the Menlo I remember!”

And that is what I see, too. I see Menlo Church moving forward, drawing from its past and becoming even stronger with God at work.

I saw these glimmers when a high schooler who attended a youth retreat came to faith instead of goofing off at the retreat (as she expected she would!). I saw it when dozens of cars pulled into the parking lot filled with clothes, toys, and food to be donated and shared with neighbors in the Bay. I saw it in a group of young moms expressing the privilege of getting to take their kids to Serve Your City, so their eyes and hearts would be opened.

As we move forward, one thing we would like to do is to communicate more often about where our finances stand. To that end, the following graph shows our actual offerings in comparison to our projected offerings:

Our end goal is to finish the year well. We are so grateful for our generous congregants, and that our church has been entrusted with these resources.

That’s why I’m committed to the ludicrous, joyful generosity of the Kingdom of Heaven, to multiply Menlo’s impact throughout the Bay. I’m praying you’ll join us in giving and serving and sharing in the JOY of generosity.

From my outsider perspective, financial health at Menlo is less about the total raised and more about the number of disciples we gather into the mission together. So we’ll keep both those measurements in front of you in the months to come, to challenge and encourage us all.

In community with you,

John Crosby, Transitional Pastor
