Series Resources
sermon-based study guide
This guide is designed to guide a group discussion around the weekend sermon. You can also use this as an individual, but we highly recommend finding a friend and inviting them to discuss with you. Menlo Church has Life Groups meeting in-person and online using these guides. We’d love to help you find a group.
What you will find in this guide: A discussion guide for groups and individuals. If you are using this as an individual be sure to engage with each question in a journal or simply in your mind as you prayerfully consider what you heard in the sermon and seek to discover what God is inviting you to know and do.
Living Beyond the Basics
LIVING BEYOND THE BASICS | August 18, 2024
CONNECT
Share a story about a time when you made a decision that had a lasting impact on your life, whether positive or negative, and what you learned from it.
ENGAGE
Read Romans 8:1-2, Galatians 5:16-18; Romans 8:5-8, Galatians 6:7-8, Romans 8:33-34 & Galatians 2:16 as a group and discuss:
- In your personal experience, how have the “seeds” you’ve sown (in time, actions, relationships) grown over time? Are there any areas where you wish you had sown differently?
- As a follower of Jesus, what enables us to “ Live Beyond Condemnation “ in our lives?
- What do you currently need to say “No” to in order to say “Yes” to spending intentional time with God?
- What are some areas in your life where you feel a pull between doing what’s easy versus what’s right?
- How does walking by the Spirit influence your relationships with others?
- What changes in your life when you try to walk by the Spirit?
APPLY
- What changes can you make in your schedule to prioritize time with God, even in a busy time?
- What specific actions can you take to live beyond condemnation and embrace the freedom found in Christ?
- How can you ensure that your time and energy investments are contributing to your spiritual “retirement plan”?
PRAYER
Pray together, asking God to help us make wise decisions that honor Him and positively impact and bless those around us. Ask God to guide our steps each day, leading us to live with purpose and love in all we do.
