Series Resources
sermon-based study guide
This guide is designed to guide a group discussion around the weekend sermon. You can also use this as an individual, but we highly recommend finding a friend and inviting them to discuss with you. Menlo Church has Life Groups meeting in-person and online using these guides. We’d love to help you find a group.
What you will find in this guide: A discussion guide for groups and individuals. If you are using this as an individual be sure to engage with each question in a journal or simply in your mind as you prayerfully consider what you heard in the sermon and seek to discover what God is inviting you to know and do.

CONNECT
Share a time when they felt weak and needed help.
ENGAGE
Read Romans 8:26-27 as a group and discuss:
- What does it mean that “the Spirit helps us in our weakness”?
- Why do you think admitting weakness is a challenge for many people today?
- The passage says the Spirit intercedes for us “with groanings too deep for words”. What does this image mean to you?
APPLY
- Where in your life do you need God’s help right now?
- How can you practically surrender your will to God’s will in your current situation?
PRAYER
- Invite anyone who has never experienced God's love and strength to pray for guidance and willingness to surrender. As a group, pray for each other's needs and weaknesses mentioned during the discussion.
