Series Resources
sermon-based study guide
This guide is designed to guide a group discussion around the weekend sermon. You can also use this as an individual, but we highly recommend finding a friend and inviting them to discuss with you. Menlo Church has Life Groups meeting in-person and online using these guides. We’d love to help you find a group.
What you will find in this guide: A discussion guide for groups and individuals. If you are using this as an individual be sure to engage with each question in a journal or simply in your mind as you prayerfully consider what you heard in the sermon and seek to discover what God is inviting you to know and do.

CONNECT
Share a time when something unexpected happened, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
ENGAGE
Read Romans 8:28-30 as a group and discuss:
- What promises do you find in these verses?
- How does the phrase "works all things together for good" challenge your understanding of suffering and hardship?
- What does it mean to be "conformed to the image of His Son"? How does this relate to your personal growth?
- How does knowing that God has a plan for you impact your perspective on the future?
APPLY
- When facing a challenge, what gives you hope?
- How have you seen God work through a struggle or painful moment in your life in the past? How might that give you strength for today and hope for the future? Reflect on a challenging situation you've faced. How can the truth of Romans 8:28-30 offer you hope and perspective in that situation today?
- How can you practically apply the concept of "being conformed to the image of Christ" in your daily life?
PRAYER
Take turns sharing one specific area of your life where you need God's strength and guidance. As a group, pray for each other, asking God to help you trust in His plan and purpose.
