This guide is designed to guide a group discussion around the weekend sermon. You can also use this as an individual, but we highly recommend finding a friend and inviting them to discuss with you. Menlo Church has Life Groups meeting in-person and online using these guides. We’d love to help you find a group.

What you will find in this guide: A discussion guide for groups and individuals. If you are using this as an individual be sure to engage with each question in a journal or simply in your mind as you prayerfully consider what you heard in the sermon and seek to discover what God is inviting you to know and do.

Study Guide: Finding the Posture of Prayer

Connect

Who taught or modeled prayer for you?
Did you learn to pray in a certain physical posture? (for example: kneeling, eyes closed, or head bowed)

Read Matthew 6:9-10

What images do you have of heaven in your mind?
How do these verses shape your view of God?
How does Jesus teach us to approach God?

Apply

What are ways in which we can remember reverence for God?
How do we practically pray for God’s kingdom to come?
What do we have to let go of for God’s kingdom to take root in our lives?
As we pray for God’s kingdom to come, what are ways we could be invited to live out of God’s kingdom instead of our own kingdom?
Phil talked about his hike with a 2,000-foot vertical gain, and how that meant he was taking 2,800 steps of varying degrees. One step at a time is the only way to make it up. What is a small practical step you could take with God this week?

Prayer

Spend time sharing in your prayer needs together and share what you are thankful for in this season of life. Close by saying a prayer of thanksgiving and gratitude for these things and people.
